News Soon on the Return of Austin Carr!!!

Like The Phoenix, could I return from the dead? Looking good, gang. Deals have been made and some of the papers signed toward the return of my series in 2013. BIG NUMBERS (#1) and BIG MONEY (#2) are likely to be republished first, with #3 BIG MOJO tentatively scheduled around a year from now. BIG SHOES (#4) might see the world for the first time in 2014, and if readers show enthusiasm, maybe we can get The Famous Author to work on more.

TFA Nowhere to be Found (Again)

The Famous Author and I are on an extended trip abroad, currently Greece, which means one of three things: A -- TFA is actually locked up somewhere in prison or a rehab facility. B -- I am locked up in prison or rehab, and TFA can't or won't rescue me. C -- TFA and potential publishers still dilly-dally with #3 & #4.

Okay, the truth? TFA has me locked up again in his computer case. I've been stuffed under the dresser for two years while he worked on a novel called THE BLACK KACHINA, short stories, a fantasy diary, and a series of personal flaws which have plagued TFA all his life, including an addiction to peanut butter fudge.

EJ Cooperman TONIGHT

THE MOONSTONE MYSTERY BOOK STORE Hosts E. J. COPPERMAN APRIL 12 -- 7 PM E. J. Copperman is the nom de plume of an old friend of The Moonstone Mystery Book Store, Jeff Cohen. He assumed the name two years ago for a new mystery series about a Haunted Guesthouse in a fictional town at the Jersey Shore, but he retained his trademark humor and ability to create characters as real as your neighbors and friends. Jeff is the author of two previous mystery series, the Aaron Tucker mysteries (For Whom the Minivan Rolls, A Farewell to Legs and As Dog is My Witness) and the Double Feature Mystery series, about Elliot Freed and his all-comedy movie theater (Some Like It Hot Buttered, It Happened One Knife and A Night at the Operation). As a Rutgers graduate and a New Jersey resident, Jeff has intimate knowledge of our beloved state and is able to write about its unique characteristics and characters with affection and the appropriate amount of Jersey attitude. Jeff has been a newspaper reporter, teacher, magazine editor and screenwriter. In addition to writing his novels, he is currently a graduate student and is teaching screenwriting at Drexel University in Philadelphia. Jeff will be discussing not only his recently released book in the Haunted Guesthouse series, Old Haunts, but the use of humor, dialogue and characterization in writing novels. Please join him on April 12 at 7 PM.

U.K. Gives Omex Permission to Raise Warship

(UKPA) – The remains of the first HMS Victory are to be raised from the sea bed nearly 300 years after it sank, it has been reported.

The vessel, predecessor of Nelson's famous flagship, went down in a storm off the Channel Islands in 1744, taking more than 1,000 soldiers to their deaths.

Along with a bronze cannon collection, some believe the ship was carrying a large quantity of gold coins from Lisbon to Britain, which would now be worth a reported £500 million.

According to the Sunday Times, the wreck is to be handed over to the Maritime Heritage Foundation, which is expected to employ Odyssey Marine Exploration to carry out the recovery. The American company found the ship four years ago.

A Ministry of Defence spokeswoman said: "Efforts to protect key parts of British Naval history such as the wreck of HMS Victory 1744 are very welcome and we hope to make an announcement shortly."

The guns and other artefacts will be displayed in British museums, while Odyssey is likely to receive the bulk of any treasure under the laws of salvage, the newspaper reported.

(This is my blog and I'm butting in here to say the above is false. There is no legal, unauthorized salvage of warships. But even better for Odyssey shareholders, OMEX has a signed contract and previous agreement for bulk of treasure!!! Okay, back to UKPA's Copywrited story:)

The Maritime Heritage Foundation was set up by Lord Lingfield, the Tory peer formerly known as Sir Robert Balchin.
He is a relative of Admiral Sir John Balchin who was on board the Victory when it sank, although he stressed he would not profit personally from the ship's cargo.

Lord Lingfield told the Sunday Times: "The foundation seeks to prevent damage to this historically important site and maximise its archaeological, scientific and educational value.

"We hope it will give a unique insight into the world of the mid-18th century Royal Navy."
